In Iceland, the epidemiology of sexually transmitted diseases has long been similar to the epidemiology of neighboring countries, but in recent years there has been an increase in syphilis, HIV and gonorrhea in Iceland as well as abroad. These guidelines seek to clarify the epidemiology of STDs, to convey what the government is doing to curb the increase in STDs and HIV, and resources such as points of care and education materials available to citizens for successful diagnosis, treatment, or prevention.
